1st "Relief Supplies Hot-Line"

Nippon Keidanren launched a relief goods transportation scheme "Relief Supplies Hot-Line", to deliver relief goods to the people hard hit by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami more effectively to respond requests from the afflicted areas through consultations with governors and other regional officials in the affected prefectures (Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures and Tokyo).

As the first of such shipment, with the cooperation from Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Aomori Prefecture, the NYK transport ship Yamatai (19,500 tons) with relief goods donated by some 50 companies and organizations aboard left Kobe Port on March 24, arriving in Hachinohe Port, Aomori Prefecture, on March 27. The 16 10-ton truckloads of relief goods, including food and daily life necessities, were to be delivered to the afflicted areas.
