Chairman Okuda's Press Conference

October 24, 2005

Following is the gist of remarks made by Mr. Hiroshi Okuda, Chairman, Nippon Keidanren, at a press conference on October 24, 2005. Translation is rush and tentative, and sequence of the gist does not necessarily coincide with words delivered.

(On media report that Okuda traveled to China to meet China's Premier)

I visited China and met Mr. Hu Jintao. Topics of the discussion did not include the Yasukuni Shrine issue, nor did I accept a personal representative-ship of Prime Minister Koizumi.

(On governmental financial institutions)

The discussion should start from what types of functions government should retain. Which organization to keep should be discussed afterward.

(On Rakuten's purchasing of TBS stocks)

It is difficult to comment on this topic as my knowledge is rather limited.
