Chairman Mitarai's comment at his press conference

March 12, 2007

Following is the gist of remarks made by Chairman Mitarai at his Press Conference. Translation is rush and tentative, and sequence of the gist does not necessarily coincide with words delivered.

(Asked on the "Shunto" negotiations)

Basic stance on management side seems to be more flexible than last year on the whole, but it is hard to predict the results of the negotiations at this stage because business performances differ among industrial sectors and companies.

(Asked on the global warming issue)

It is mandatory for Japan to keep working hard toward the goal for the year of 2012 set in the Kyoto protocol. The international framework for an approach to the global warming issue after the year of 2013 should be discussed with the participation of key countries such as the US, China and India.

(Asked on triangular merger issue)

It is good that the Japanese government and LDP correctly understand what Keidanren thinks about tighter disclosure requirements and strengthening of Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Control Law. We will keep watching what happens after increased flexibility in merger compensation under the Company Law takes effective.
