Chairman Mitarai's comment at his press conference

June 11, 2007

Following is the gist of remarks made by Chairman Mitarai at his Press Conference. Translation is rush and tentative, and sequence of the gist does not necessarily coincide with words delivered.

( Asked on the spreading pension fiasco )

It is public concern number one and there is no time to lose. The whole nation, not only every one of central and local government members but also private companies must take action to bring back a sense of security and safety to the Japanese people without delay. Keidanren is determined to be in the rescue team. We will work on our member companies to cooperate with Social Insurance Agency and give a helping hand to people in trouble.

( Asked on Keidanren's decision on Goodwill Group and Mr. Origuchi )

Private companies cannot live without law abiding management and deep recognition of CSR. The strict qualification and firm determination is mostly needed from companies doing business such as nursing service. What Goodwill Group has done is against it. It is quite disappointing and unforgivable, leading us to make a prompt decision on the company. We will keep watching what they are going to do.
