Chairman Mitarai's comment at his press conference

September 28, 2009

Following is the gist of remarks made by Chairman Mitarai at his Press Conference. Translation is rush and tentative, and sequence of the gist does not necessarily coincide with words delivered.

( Foreign Currency Exchange Policy )

The recent remarks of Finance Minister Fujii do not seem to suggest any big change of the foreign currency exchange policy. The wild fluctuation of the exchange rate in a short period is the nightmare for business.

( G20 summit meeting )

The summit members agreed to tackle with key business issues in the framework of G20. It was a realistic and good decision. The global economy cannot be discussed without emerging economies and natural resource rich countries. Meanwhile, the importance of G8 remains unchanged. The G8 nation leaders are still expected to talk over not only world economy but also global issues such as international politics and security in the meeting.

( The result of LDP presidential race )

Mr. Tanigaki is an excellent statesman rich in experience. He is expected to revive the Liberal Democratic Party with solidarity of the whole party. The LDP needs to improve its organization administration and tell the people what their basic idea of politics is and how they gain their ends to have productive debates with the ruling parties in the Diet.
