Chairman Mitarai's comment at his press conference

December 21, 2009

Following is the gist of remarks made by Chairman Mitarai at his Press Conference. Translation is rush and tentative, and sequence of the gist does not necessarily coincide with words delivered.

( COP15 )

The COP15 was a great step towards the building of a new framework for reducing green house gas on a global basis. The leaders of more than 100 countries got together to have a serious and realistic debate on the issue. The Japanese government needs to continue tough negotiations to launch fair and effective Post Kyoto protocol to tackle with global warming with the participation of all countries responsible for a great amount of the gas emission. In the process, the voice of the people must be heard.

( The FY 2010 budget )

The government places a stress on child care, employment, environment and science & technology in the FY 2010 budget building. Keidanren has insisted that these items deserve special emphasis. The point is what specific policy measures are going to be included in the budget. The Japanese government is required to work harder to finish planning the budget no later than the end of this year and pass the bill by the end of the fiscal year 2009.
