3. Environmental education and volunteer training (employee)
The "Friends of Nissay Forests Association" is a voluntary group consisting mainly of Nippon Life's current and retired employees, and holds events to plant and nurture trees (see below), fund raises for afforestation costs, and conducts activities to enlighten its members about environmental issues.

The Nissay Green Foundation invites children in care facilities based on recommendations from Tokyo Zen-i Bank to come and experience nature. Every year since 1997, Nippon Life has received a letter of appreciation from Tokyo Zen-i Bank.
The Nissay Green Foundation holds specialized and practical public lectures on forests and the environment geared for businesses, groups, and NPOs.

6. Woods structure activities of afforestation, silviculture, etc.
In order to replenish the earth's supply of forests, the source of paper, Nippon Life created the "Nissay Million Tree-Planting Campaign" in 1992. Using the profit-sharing forestation system of national forests, Nippon Life has worked to plant 100,000 trees each year over 10 years in the "Nissay Forests" at 156 locations nationwide, and in the spring of 2002 reached the goal of planting one million trees. These activities were voluntarily conducted by management and staff in cooperation with the "Friends of Nissay Forests Association" and the "Nissay Green Foundation." Upon reaching the goal of one million trees, the "Friends of Nissay Forests Association" received an award from the Director-General of the Forestry Agency.
In fiscal year 2003, to continue afforestation activites, Nippon Life began " Nissay Forestation for the Future." This new campaign has been planting trees to replenish the forest resources used to make paper, and actively developed "Tree nurturing" activities to help the nationwide "Nissay Forests" grow into beautiful, lush forests. This campaign is conducted in over 20 locations each year, and while broadening the scope of "Nissay Forests" tree-planting activities to include members of the "Friends of Nissay Forests Association", local residents, NPOs and children, it promotes forests as regional treasures and passes the irreplaceable natural environment on to the next generation.
The Nissay Green Foundation works with local specialized organizations to conduct reforestation according to local needs in six countries -- Kenya, China, Indonesia, Nepal, Vietnam, and Mongolia -- and has planted over a million trees since 1993. In November 2001 these activities won the "Seventh Asian Environmental Award" created by Mainichi Shimbun (Japan) and Chosun Ilbo (Korea).
7. Others
The Nippon Life Foundation quickly turned its attention to environmental problems, which are now extremely important social problems, and has supported research since 1979 on the harmonization of human activity and environmental protection in cooperation with college researchers and organizations, such as NPOs.
