Sompo Japan has newly introduced Web-based certificate accompanying insurance policies* for automobile insurance policies commencing in and after April 2011. If customers select the Web-based certificate accompanying insurance policies option, Sompo Japan will donate funds to environmental NPOs and other organizations, which will go towards helping to protect the natural environments inhabited by Endangered Species in Japan, including killifish and falcons, and carry out "SAVE JAPAN Project".

Public Seminars on the Environment
Sompo Japan and the Sompo Japan Environment Foundation work with highly qualified civil society organizations (CSOs) to nurture environmental awareness in society at large. For example, we have since 1993 teamed up with an NPO called the Japan Environmental Education Forum (JEEF) to hold a yearly series of public seminars on the environment, with the aim of cultivating an understanding of environmental issues among the general public.
We recognize this initiative as an example of partnership based on collaboration between NPO, who has high expertise in environmental education, and corporation, who has experience in seminar operation.
CSO Learning Scholarship Program
With the aim of raising environmental awareness among the younger generations, Sompo Japan Environment Foundation has run a CSO Learning Scholarship Program to sponsor eight-month internship for university undergraduate and graduate students at environmental CSOs (also known as NGOs/NPOs). This program is designed to provide students with a deeper understanding and broader perspective on environmental issues through real work experience at CSOs, and to support environmental CSOs by augmenting their staff. The program is supported by the Chikyu (Earth) Club Social Contribution fund, a fund created through regular donations by Sompo Japan employees.
3. Environmental education and volunteer training (employee)
Employee Environmental Education Program
We focus on environmental education for our employees, and practice "in-house CSO Literacy Training" with the aim of creating a corporate culture in which each and every employee acknowledges environmental programs correctly and has mind to solve them, and to enhance ability to act in every day work with environmental point of view. Another initiative we conduct is providing an online Introductory Course on Environmental Issues, just one of various in-house on-line courses provided to boost employee knowledge and skills.
Supporting Employee Voluntarism
Not only does Sompo Japan support employee volunteerism outside the company; it also recognizes the importance of creating opportunities that allow each employee to take the initiative to contribute to society. To promote this idea, Sompo Japan has established a leave of absence system for volunteering, matching system of employee donation, and information providing system for volunteering. In addition to these systems, an employee-managed organization, the Chikyu Club (chikyu="earth"), was established in order to let employees to participate in variety of social action programs under cooperation with NPOs in different areas. Chikyu Club members can also choose to donate 100 yen or more per month out of their salaries to maintain the Chikyu Club Fund, to make donations and give financial assistance to the members' volunteer activities, NPOs, and support in emergency of wide-range large scale.

6. Forest management, afforestation, sylviculture etc.
Employees participate in afforestation programs in partnership with NPOs around Japan. For example, "Buna-no-mori" protection activity is practiced by "Kinki Chikyu Club," which takes collaboration with "Osaka Green Trust." To protect "Buna-no-mori" in mt. Izumikatsuragi, many employees and OB participate in this event such as to pick seeds, plant trees, and thin trees.
