Following is the gist of remarks made by Chairman Yonekura at his Press Conference. Translation is rush and tentative, and sequence of the gist does not necessarily coincide with words delivered.

Visit to China

Japan and China have developed mutually beneficial and supplemental economic relations for thirty five years since the Treaty of Peace and Friendship was signed. The two countries should continue fastening business ties. The delegation of the Japan-China Economic Association is going to China next week. Our Chinese counterpart hopes for improvement of the situation, too. I would like to tell them what Japanese businesses think about the bilateral relation, hoping the visit will become the first step towards a new future-oriented cooperative relationship between the two countries.

Energy Policy and Global Warming

It is necessary to ensure an appropriate balance among stable energy supply, economic efficiency and environmental adaptability. The target of greenhouse gas emissions reduction should not be set without considering the three questions: a) it is feasible? b) the Japanese people regards it as reasonable burden on them? c) global fairness can be maintained?. The goal also needs to be consistent with the national energy policy based on Japan's growth strategy.
