As a result of serious damage to the electric power generation facilities due to the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake, shortage of electricity supply is expected in this summer. Keidanren has decided to draw up a voluntary action plan for reduction of peak power demand to overcome the shortage of power supply capacity in the Kanto and Tohoku regions. With the action plan, Keidanren intends to lead the nationwide efforts to cope with the power supply shortage, while seeking to share best practices for peak power demand cuts among the member companies. At the same time, Keidanren plans to present policy proposals, such as various de-regulations, to ensure the voluntary action plan will be implemented smoothly.
