September 14, 2009

Following is the gist of remarks made by Chairman Mitarai at his Press Conference. Translation is rush and tentative, and sequence of the gist does not necessarily coincide with words delivered.

( Policy items needed to be tackled by the next government )

Keidanren exists to contribute to enrichment of the people through activities such as policy recommendation on key issues to vitalize business. The raison d'etre is immovable. The basic policy stance that lays a stress on stabilization and improvement of people's life also remains unchanged. Based upon the principle, Keidanren released a policy proposal to the next government today.

( The meeting with Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing on September 9 )

The meeting was fruitful. Premier Wen Jiabao and I shared views on the importance of Japan-China cooperation in the field of environmental issues. The Chinese leader understood my offer of launching regular meetings between Keidanren and the government as well as my request of his visit to Japan. The premier's message that his government will continue to work hard to develop the relations of the two countries and he hopes to have a summit meeting with the next Prime Minister Hatoyama as early as possible has been surely delivered.
